Romblon has a lucrative marble industry due to an abundance of high-quality Italian grade marble found in the province. Thanks to this, it has been dubbed the "Marble Capital of the Philippines." In 1582, the Spanish chronicler Miguel de Loarca first used the word Romblon to describe this place in the central region of the Philippines.
