Claude Monet 1840-1926
[The Artist's Garden at Vétheuil](1881)
This work depicts the garden of the house Monet rented in Vétheuil, a village on the right bank of the Seine River, northwest of Paris. Monet was in the depths of despair after the death of his wife Camille, who left behind two sons, but with the devoted support of his second wife, Alice *Ossuedet, he was just beginning to recover. With a fine touch, the work beautifully depicts the glittering atmosphere of sunlight and sunflowers in full bloom.
